• Beautifully detailed, very large and heavy, statue of Hercules (Heracles).  He was one of the most important and most beloved of the Greek legendary heroes. Under his arm is his club which he always carries and lion skin, which he usually wears.

• This statue is hand made in Staffordshire, England from bonded Italian marble.  It is made from 96% marble which means it is cold and firm to the touch.  It also means that it is just as suitable for display outside as it is in any room.  Being hand made, means they are only made in limited numbers and so are very collectable. The detail is superb and these items are often mistaken for art works of great age.

The History behind the piece

This particular art work was inspired by the marble sculpture (in the National Museum of Naples) of Hercules, known as the "Farnese Hercules," ca. 320 BC. Imperial Roman copy by Glykon (from the Baths of Caracalla in Rome) of a Greek Hellenistic original by Lysippos.  Below is included a photo of the Farnese Hercules which shows how closely this fine statue resembles the it.
